| Biography: A well-crafted rock sound and powerful live shows have gained Atlanta-based rock band State of Man a reputation for being "one of the East coast's premier acts" (XM Satellite Radio). The band's music combines driving guitars, soulful vocals, and syncopated bass and drums, resulting in a sound described by Kings of A&R.com as "powerful, yet soulful modern rock/alternative that sounds like a cross between Sevendust, Fuel, 3 Doors Down and Saliva." State of Man's full-length debut CD, "Lose Your Mind," gained the attention of Atlanta veteran producers Rick Beato (Shinedown; Vince Neil; Jump, Little Children; The Working Title; Flickerstick) and Don McCollister (Sister Hazel, Indigo Girls, Shawn Mullins), who each recorded tracks for their follow-up EP, "More Than Coincidence." The strength of the band's live show has lead to local and regional band competition titles as well as a reputation for being "One of the best live bands in the Southeast& period" (Southern Jam Online). Performing at venues and festivals across the nation with such artists as Earshot, Better Than Ezra, Garbage, Hoobastank, Kid Rock, No Doubt, Puddle of Mudd, Stone Temple Pilots and more, State of Man is continually building its fan base while writing new material for an upcoming release. | Biography: Mitch Winston has lived an examined and adventurous life. He is known throughout various circles for his experiences as an artist, a businessman, and a leader. Throughout his career, he has seriously pursued various eclectic ventures, such as rabbinical school, professional boxing promotion, real estate development, hosting a radio show, and running a successful record label and talent management company. Mitch is now focusing a great deal of his efforts into writing and playing his own music. Since making this decision this year, Mitch Winston has opened up for music legends Marshall Crenshaw, Blue Oyster Cult, Richie Havens, and Jeff Healy (in Toronto). He has also recorded with guitar legend Vernon Reid (Living Color), bass virtuoso Tony Levin (Peter Gabriel, King Crimson), guitarist Dave Brown (Paul Simon), and drummer Dave Mattacks (Paul McCartney). Mitch Winston recently finished this album, Civilized Hyenas, and it will be released later this fall. It was produced and engineered by Jon Tomlinson, who also sang backup and played lead guitar and bass on the album. Mitch played guitar, harmonica and lead vocals. Deni Bonet (Cyndi Lauper) played beautiful violin on a few tracks, and David Butler's drumming and percussion kept everything smooth... In addition to his music, Mitch Winston is the founder of the Wave of Peace Foundation, Inc., a fully accredited 501(c)3 charitable foundation formed in 2001 that brings people together and raises funds for causes that have touched Mitch's heart. | Description: Eclectic, evocative and emotive indie, CatDesigners have a fertile mind in overdrive | ||||
| Biography: CatDesigners soak up a lot of musical influences, add a splash of impressionsim, a twist
of guitar artillery, a dash of drama, just a hint of small hours psychosis and pass it
all through a psychological filter before presenting you with an immediate but multi-
layered and inviting album.
Although modesty and natural British reserve prevents us from blowing our own horns, here are a few comments from the critics. Debut album: Chemical Jazz ** Chemical Jazz is one hell of a calling card (Splendid E-zine) ** Chemical Jazz showcases a fertile mind in overdrive and at home with exciting eclecticism ... with a knack for subverting genres ... a defiantly square peg where the round hole pigeonholers are concerned (Whisperin' & Hollerin') Second album: Strange Little Creature ** Musical ideas just flow out left, right and centre ... This is a better follow-up album than it has any right to be (Editor's Pick, Phase 9) ** ... an animal of a different stripe you'll want to observe in detail for some time to come ... lustful, claustrophobic and deadly all at once ... leaving you with a tangible feeling of small hours psychosis blues ... "Strange Little Creature" throws attractive musical shapes however many times you place it under the microscope (Whisperin' & Hollerin') ** ... an offbeat, yet memorably good time was had by all (Fake Jazz) Luv on ya! Release: Tomorrow Never Knows: CatDesigners' tribute to The Beatles' Revolver album 40th anniversary tribute to one of the best albums ever recorded Available at the CatDesigners website and CDBaby Tomorrow Never Knows is CatDesigners’ reinterpretation of The Beatles seminal album, Revolver. Nick Troop’s third album under the CatDesigners banner was self- produced and was mixed by Daniel Spiller of Shoot the Dog Productions and mastered by Lawrence Gill of Fat As Funk (Dan Lo Fi, Automated Acoustics, The Oracle). Having known this album inside out from the age of 13, Nick Troop wanted to mark its 40th anniversary with something special. This is not simply a series of covers on a single volume by a random collection of bands but a complete reworking of an incredible album by an artist showing love and respect for the original ... and not a little playfulness. Nick’s brief to himself was to record the 14 songs on the album as if he had written them himself but with the additional proviso that they must not sound anything like the originals. To achieve this Nick drew on influences that both pre-dated and post-dated The Beatles. Nick Troop’s first two CatDesigners albums achieved critical acclaim. His debut, Chemical Jazz, was called "one hell of a calling card" while Strange Little Creature showed a "fertile mind in overdrive." Tomorrow Never Knows was arranged and recorded with equal care and imagination but with an even greater confidence in trusting to the creative process. There is a story behind the arrangement and production of each of the 14 tracks on this album. For example, the bass line from "Taxman" was taken by the Jam and used in a song called "Start" so Nick took the bass line from a Jam song ("A Town Called Malice") and stole it back for "Taxman." "Yellow Submarine" underwent a complete overhaul and emerged as an old English sea shanty. "For No One" was dismantled and reconstructed in slow 3/4 time. "Got To Get You Into My Life" became a Howlin’ Wolf blues song. "Tomorrow Never Knows" was recorded with 3 chords (2 more than the original) and turned into some kind of industrial glam (somewhere between Iggy Pop’s The Idiot and Goldfrapp’s Supernature). Having heard this album one could be forgiven for forgetting that this is not how these songs were originally intended to sound. That these songs lend themselves so well to such (in some cases dramatic) reinterpretation is a mark of truly great writing by Lennon, McCartney and Harrison. However, that’s only half the story. Nick Troop’s treatment of these songs really is as if they were his own. |

| Biography: Toxin Tongues is a band of one. Christian Nava writes and records rock music that seeks to capture the raw, spinal energy of a group without the clashing egos and stylistic discord that live and breed in rock'n'roll organisms. The debut, "Devolver" is a unique, artful mix of sound and syntax, muscle and melody, devoid of formulaic pitfalls or compositional regurgitation, with an eye on the past and an ear towards the future. Rock music...pure and simple. |

The Clay Withrow Band

| Location: Norman, OK, USA | ||||
| Description: The Clay Withrow Band blends haunting melodies with somber lyrics to form something distinctly human. | ||||
| Biography: Clay Withrow's music explores the dark and damp spaces of the human psyche. Within the confines of his independent studio, Clay meticulously performs and records each and every one of his original tracks. Fans of his music enjoy his deeply emotional vocal performance and propensity to write epic movements. While each track differs dramatically from the last- sometimes spanning diverse musical genres- they all become bound by a delicate thread that is Clay's unique and varying style. His forthcoming CD, Dissonance Rising, is the story about two brothers who find emotional salvation through a series of terrible circumstances. Born into a life of poverty in early 1920's immigrant American, the brothers lose their mother and father to famine and disease. Abandoned and left with only each other, they do what they must to survive but fate turns its cruel knife leaving the two estranged. Dissonance Rising is a unique window into the lives of these two grown men and how, through happiness, loss and humility, they find each other at the end of life's road. Clay's original vision of the story came to him when he read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle in High School. After learning more about the unsanitary conditions of immigrant workers while attending the University of Oklahoma, he penned a story set to sorrowful music. The result is the collaboration between traditional storytelling and reoccurring musical themes that coalesce to form a tapestry of striking narrative. As a young child Clay first experienced music by listening to the 70s and 80s pop tunes his mother played in the car. As he grew, his tastes expanded to include a wide array of film scores that intoned dark emotive imagery, such as Batman, Schindler's List and Terminator 2. His high school band, Dysphoria, played local venues, incubating his talent and confidence. After entering college Clay was introduced to several unique musical styles from bands such as Ayreon, Shadow Gallery and Pain of Salvation. The progressive rock genre began to afford Clay the flexibility to explore music like never before. Already familiar with advanced guitar technique he taught himself to play the bass, drums and piano so that he could accurately pen lavish compositions. Over the course of two days in December of 2002 Clay quickly recorded an eight-song album on his analog 4-track mixer. Consisting of completely improvised selections, the story, which took place on Christmas Eve (coincidentally the time he recorded the demo) confronted issues of abuse, abandonment and suicide. While the tracks were very rough around the edges, it was a striking indication of his bold new direction. Just one year later Clay emerged from his basement studio with a brand new demo that aptly summarized his previous recording efforts. The demo- a seven-minute epic titled "The Grinding"- quickly became a favorite among fans of independent progressive music for its brutal intensity and captivating narrative. Clay's been writing music since- self-performing, mixing and producing CDs in his basement studio. His first full-length album, Dissonance Rising, which incorporates a blend of intricate time signatures layered by a non-linear narrative, will see release in late 2006. Available at www.claywithrow.com, his growing portfolio reflects his earlier elemental sounds, including original movie scores for independent films, as well as his own steadily evolving flavor of melodic progressive metal. |
